In 2013, at six years old, Sreynai was playing outside when a snake bit her. An orphan and unable to afford care, Sreynai’s infection worsened by the day until she needed an amputation to save her life.

Snake bites are dire in emerging countries, where antivenom is often unavailable and access to emergency care is severely limited. An estimated 400,000 people lose limbs to snake bites every year. For most, regaining their mobility - and with it, their independence, access to education, and livelihoods - is a distant hope.

We met Sreynai in 2015, provided her with her first prosthetic limb, and committed to covering her care as she grew.

Thanks to your generosity, we’ve kept that promise for over a decade.

Mobility is the joy of playing with friends, the pride of being the first in your family to attend college, and the hope that your dreams are a possibility. But all of that slips away if a child grows without access to continued care. Sreynai routinely visits our program to receive the care she needs as she grows to ensure she is always moving comfortably and confidently.

Now in high school, Sreynai spends all her free time at the library reading.

On behalf of Sreynai, and all those who care for her, thank you so much.

CoolKid since 2015.

Sreynai receives free mobility care at our program with Exceed in Cambodia.

100% of the children we serve will need continued treatment. A growing child needs care, on average, every six months. Join The CoolKids Club with a monthly donation to keep our CoolKids moving — #GrowingUpALTSO is mobility for the future. View more CoolKid stories here.
