In 2003 Sunita from Gulmi, Nepal was born with a congenital fibula fracture that had gone untreated until the age of six. Due to her family's very low economic condition, medical treatment was not an option. Her parents are farmers, tending to the small amount of land in which they own.
Sunita finally received the corrective surgery needed in 2009, to heal her congenital deformity. Her treatment was provided by ALTSO through its partner in Nepal, the Hope Disability Center. Sunita has recently finished her rehabilitation and is walking pain-free.
Today, Sunita is able to attend school for the first time and is walking without any assistance. At home Sunita enjoys helping her mother in the kitchen, preparing meals for her father and seven other siblings. It is a great joy to see the smile on Sunita's face.
