A Leg To Stand On (ALTSO) To Host June 23rd #RockForALTSO Concert To Benefit Children With Limb Disabilities in Nepal

Hedge Fund & Finance Professionals to Rock Out in Support of ALTSO's Work To Treat Children With Limb Disabilities in Nepal at The Cutting Room (44 E 32nd St, NY) – 6pm-10pm, $20 cover

NEW YORK – In the wake of multiple devastating earthquakes in Nepal’s capital city, Kathmandu, and surrounding areas, the desperation for aid in the country is catastrophic. With nearly 9,000 fatalities and over 23,000 injured, the communities will not soon find relief from the disaster’s effects.

ALTSO has been partnered with Asha Apanga Kendra (Hope Disability Centre) in Gulmi, Nepal since 2009 providing free orthopedic care – including prosthetic limbs, orthotic devices, mobility aids, corrective surgery and rehabilitative care – to children suffering from limb disabilities. Due to the recent earthquakes, the number of children who will require orthopedic care in the near future is expected to increase.

Founded in 2003, ALTSO’s mission is to offer children who have lost their limbs in traumatic accidents or suffer from congenital limb disabilities the physical capabilities to access the opportunities and self-esteem earned through education, work and mobility. To date ALTSO has provided free orthopedic care to more than 13,000 children in developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

On Tuesday, June 23rd ALTSO is hosting a concert to benefit children in Nepal and the anticipated influx of need for orthopedic care in the country. Concertgoers’ $20 cover will be donated directly to providing free medical care to children in Nepal. “We can really make a difference for these children, many of whom have had their lives totally shattered by last months earthquakes,” says Gabriella Mueller, Executive Director of ALTSO. “At ALTSO we see how much power even the smallest donation can have because it means giving kids the gift of their freedom.”

The benefit will run from 6pm to 10pm at The Cutting Room (32nd Street, between Park and Madison Avenues.) The Cause, including members Greg Dabal and Bill Maher of Credit Suisse and Chris Caruso of Pangaea Business Solutions and The Warriors From Mars, including John Ivanac of BlackRock and Justin Lepone, and Titan Durty will be among the bands performing. “We are delighted to be part of the line up,” says Greg Dabal. “Raising money for ALTSO to support all the important work that they do, especially right now in Nepal with the urgent need on the ground.”

“Nobel Prize for Child Advocates” Announces 2013 Honorees

World of Children® Award to Recognize Seven Heroes for Transforming the Lives of the World’s Most Vulnerable Children.

Seven heroes who have dramatically improved the lives of children around the world will be honored in New York City on November 7 by World of Children® Award (http://www.worldofchildren.org), the only global recognition and funding program that recognizes individuals serving vulnerable children worldwide.

Hailed by the media as the “Nobel Prize for Child Advocates,” receiving a World of Children Award is an annual honor that includes a cash grant of up to $75,000. This year’s selection of remarkable individuals have each innovated life-changing programs that benefit children in countries around the world. Each will be honored with a World of Children Award at the World of Children Awards Ceremony on November 7.

“We are deeply inspired by the remarkable contributions our Honorees have made to changing the trajectory of children’s lives for the better,” said Harry Leibowitz, World of Children Award Co-Founder and Co-Chair.

For 16 years, World of Children Award has used a rigorous vetting process to identify the world’s most effective changemakers for children and provide funding for their efforts to improve young lives. The nonprofit’s exhaustive research and vetting of applicants for their Awards has been lauded by some of the world’s leading philanthropic organizations.

“Sustainable, practical giving to real life heroes, that’s how we operate,” said actress Stephanie March, celebrity ambassador for World of Children Award. “We are working to create a world that no longer needs our services. Until such a time comes, World of Children Award will continue to elevate those in the field.”

World of Children Award is led by co-founders Harry Leibowitz and Kay Isaacson-Leibowitz, retired senior executives from Procter & Gamble and Victoria’s Secret, who first started the organization to honor individuals serving children with a Nobel Prize-like award. Since 1998, World of Children Award has granted more than $5 million in cash grants and program support to 100 Honorees who are the driving force behind programs serving children in more than 140 countries.

A Leg To Stand On's (ALTSO's) Hedge Fund Rocktoberfest - NYC To Celebrate Its Tenth Anniversary On Wednesday, October 23; Rocktoberfest - Chicago To Mark Its Second Year Anniversary On Thursday, October 3

Hedge Fund Executives and Special Guests Rock Out in Support of ALTSO's Work Helping Disabled Children in Developing Market Countries

NEW YORK - August 14, 2013 - Hedge Fund Rocktoberfest, the annual fundraiser for children's charity A Leg To Stand On (ALTSO), will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Wednesday, October 23 at Capitale on 130 Bowery in New York City. Hedge fund industry professionals will perform rock and roll and acoustic music to raise money for ALTSO, which provides prosthetic limbs and corrective, life-altering surgeries to children with limb disabilities in emerging market countries, and has changed the lives of nearly 10,000 worldwide. On Thursday, October 3, ALTSO is also holding its second annual Rocktoberfest-Chicago at Crossroads at House of Blues at 329 N. Dearborn, Chicago.

"I can't believe it has been ten years since Hedge Fund Rocktoberfest began in New York City, and that the event has grown to two cities," says hedge fund manager and ALTSO co-founder/chairman C. Mead Welles. "I am so grateful for the support from the hedge fund industry in changing the lives of nearly 10,000 children who might not have otherwise had another chance at life.” Today ALTSO operates 11 programs in 10 countries throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America. In 2012 alone, the charity treated more than 1,400 children and has registered over 1,700 for treatment this year.

"I want to thank the New York City hedge fund industry for their generous contributions and time the last decade working towards ALTSO's goal of transforming the lives of almost 10,000 children," said André Donatiu of Lyxor Asset Management, a historic sponsor of the event. "A Leg To Stand On has come a long way in ten years but there is still more work to be done to empower disabled children in developing countries. Our firm is proud to sponsor a great cause.”

"I am excited to unite Chicago's futures industry for the second annual Rocktoberfest," said Ray McKenzie, head of the Rocktoberfest – Chicago committee and VP, Head of Sales of IntercontinentalExchange (ICE), a sponsor of both the New York City and Chicago events. "I am thankful for the support from the Midwest financial services industry professionals for ALTSO and its ongoing goal of changing the lives of children in developed countries.”

Sponsors include Yahoo! Finance, CME Group, HedgeMark International, Credit Suisse, IntercontinentalExchange (ICE), Infineon Capital Management, JP Morgan, Lyxor Asset Management, X-Change Financial Access (XFA), Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), Drury Capital, Russell Indexes, Cheiron Trading, Eurex, Virtu Financial, amongst others.

100% of the net proceeds raised will be allocated to ALTSO's global programs in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Welles, managing partner of Infineon Capital Management, founded ALTSO along with Dr. Dinesh Patel, Chief of Arthroscopic Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School, in 2002.
