ALTSO partners with CURE Clubfoot Worldwide (CCW), a division of CURE International. The vision of CURE Clubfoot is to eradicate clubfoot in the developing world. CCW is the largest clubfoot correction treatment provider in developing countries. With numerous hospitals around the developing world, they provide treatment to thousands of children suffering with the congenital deformation. In 2011, ALTSO's contribution will provide 165 orthotic braces to support children in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
After the earthquake on January 12, 2010, The Crudem Foundation established its own prosthetic laboratory in Milot, Haiti. ALTSO donated 2,000 lbs. of carbon-braided fiber for prosthetic manufacturing. To increase the organization's capacity to support more patients, ALTSO is providing funding for the education of Crudem's local prosthetic and orthotic student, who is attending the Don Bosco University prosthetic program.
ALTSO partnered with J&J, Medical Teams International ("MTI"), and CURE Clubfoot Worldwide ("CCW"), to conduct a 2-day training in the Ponseti method of clubfoot correction and increase the country's knowledge of this minimally invasive and cost-effective technique.
The workshop trained 20 local health care professionals and inspired plans for a clubfoot clinic to be built in Les Cayes, which ALTSO will support.
Limbs for Haiti is a non-profit organization based out of Coto Laurel, Puerto Rico, comprised solely of orthopedic surgeons and prosthetic practitioners. The organization's medical team volunteers 4 days every month to travel to Haiti and fit 15 - 20 patients with custom-made prosthetic devices through their 3 partner facilities.
In 2011, ALTSO is donating 800 lbs. of carbon-braided fiber and thirty carbon-fiber prosthetics to support their efforts.
ALTSO is coordinating a medical mission in response to the 7.0-magnitute earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12, 2010.
