BATTLE OF THE CLASSES

Fordham University’s Alternative Investment Club (AIC) is a student organization that promotes the study and interest of alternative investments to aid in students’ exploration of careers in the finance industry. As a student organization at a Jesuit Institution, we wish to embody the Ignation principle of 'Men and Women for Others' through charitable giving and outreach. Our students work to promote the education and advancement of children in need, so that they are fully able to pursue a happy and healthy life.

Disabled children in developing countries who do not have the luxury of transportation are unable to walk the average 3 miles to school.  As a result, 90% of these children do not attend school. Without access to education, these children are subject to extreme poverty and limited livelihood in their later lives.  In 2014, A Leg To Stand On’s efforts allowed 669 children to physically attend school who were otherwise unable to.

Together with A Leg To Stand On, Fordham University students will advocate for disabled children in developing countries.  Our students will raise awareness and funds in order to support A Leg To Stand On’s mission to provide access to free orthopedic treatment and rehabilitation to children who would not have otherwise been able to receive it.  In this effort, Fordham University students aim to grant more children access to education and the opportunity for a brighter and happier future.

A Leg To Stand On ("ALTSO") provides free prosthetic limbs, orthotic devices, mobility aids, corrective surgery and rehabilitative care to children in developing countries who have lost limbs in traumatic accidents or suffer from congenital limb disabilities. All patients are children under the age of 19 whose families cannot afford the care they need to live a self-sufficient life. Since 2003, ALTSO has treated more than 12,500 children in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
