22 OF 40 CHILDREN TREATED

CLUBFOOT CORRECTION FOR 25 KIDS

Story by: Amir and Indira Ilyasov

The story is simple... My wife and I found out on the 20th week into the pregnancy that our son Benjamin, nicknamed Apollo, would be born with clubfoot (a congenital foot deformity characterized by feet turned inward and sometimes backward, which is caused by abnormal development of the muscles, tendons and bones in the foot while the fetus is forming during pregnancy). At first we panicked and were really upset about it. But after we started researching and saw how many people were going through the same experience, we wanted to turn Apollo's situation into a positive outcome - one that could help others, all around the world.

We love the idea of our son inspiring others to help children have a better life. So we decided to bring good out of our son’s condition.

Starting September 4, 2014, our campaign to treat 25 children diagnosed with congenital clubfoot begins. The mission is even simpler: raise enough funding to provide clubfoot correction to 25 ALTSO patients born with the same condition. Our campaign will run until all $10,000 has been raised.

Note, when appropriate, ALTSO uses the Ponseti method of clubfoot correction to treat babies diagnosed with congenital clubfoot. At an average cost of only $400 per patient, the Ponseti method is a minimally invasive treatment option that, over four years, involves a series of casts and gentle manipulations, a tenotomy, and a brace. The Ponseti method is 95+% effective and it is the most cost effective treatment with no side effects. Treatment should start soon after birth.
