The mission of A Leg To Stand On (ALTSO) is to help transform the lives of children with limb disabilities in developing countries by offering them the physical capabilities to access the opportunities and self-esteem earned through education, work and mobility.
Our core program of Training, Treatment and Therapy is offered through partnerships with in-country organizations - organizations that let us meet the local community halfway. Our partners match our contributions, and thereby cover a significant portion of our service costs.
ALTSO's partners contribute clinic space, materials and funds. Most important, though, is their ability to enlist volunteers from the local medical community, including Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeons, Orthotists, and Physical Therapists. This partnership model promotes self-sufficiency and program continuity; it lets our money go further, so that we can expand our reach to other communities in need.
A Leg To Stand On is a registered 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization (EIN 02-0594709), and is registered with the New York State Attorney General's Charity Bureau and with the appropriate authorities in all states that so require.
