EVENTS
ALTSO's benefit events are a key element in our fund raising picture. They give our patrons and supporters an opportunity to network and socialize while simultaneously supporting our core mission. This event-driven work is also representative of ALTSO's culture of participation, and offers our supporters an experience that is both interactive and engaging.
The ALTSO event calendar is constantly evolving, these are our current flagship events.
HEDGE FUND ROCKTOBERFEST (NEW YORK, NEW YORK, USA)
 A Leg To Stand On's annual Hedge Fund Rocktoberfest is a very different kind of fundraiser. It's an event in which musicians from hedge funds and related industries perform to support ALTSO's work. Unlike most "corporate" fundraisers, Hedge Fund Rocktoberfest is the antithesis of formality: the goal is to provide a memorable evening of straight up rock 'n roll, while helping disadvantaged children in developing countries.
Hedge Fund Rocktoberfest started in 2004 with an industry-wide "call to instruments." Musician response was so positive and immediate that the inaugural Hedge Fund Rocktoberfest was held on October 12, 2004 at Planet Hollywood in New York City. More than 50 musicians performed six hours of classic rock for a capacity crowd of 700 people. Generous donations from corporate sponsors and individuals helped ALTSO evaluate more than 150 children and provide them with prostheses and orthoses. This money also helped us establish local manufacturing infrastructure for the production of prosthetics in our pilot project in India, and provide training in New York and Boston for orthopedic professionals from India.
That first event was so successful that it was covered by The New York Times and Alternative Investment News. Hedge Fund Rocktoberfest continues to attract wide media attention and has come to be viewed as an industry staple.
MAY-FAIR (LONDON, UK)
Hedge Fund Rocktoberfest has been such a success for ALTSO in the US, that in 2007, we decided to stage a similar event in the UK. May-Fair 2007 was held at the Café de Paris in London, another hedge fund rock benefit featuring The Subscribers, the Hypothecators and many special guests.
Writing in the Financial Times blog, Helen Thomas described the event as a "refreshing" bit of good fun, aiming to raise money for a good cause with a minimal amount of individual grandstanding.

CARD PLAYERS' BALL (MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE, USA)
Since 2005, Tom and Lolly Ihrke have run an annual Card Players Ball, sometime in late winter or early spring. They attract a crowd of about 100 supporters, who participate in a poker tournament, wine tasting, and silent auction to benefit A Leg To Stand On. It's a very popular event in the Memphis area, and succeeds thanks to the dedication of Tom and Lolly and their ability to enlist support from private donors and companies such as The Brat Foundation, McVean Trading and Commissum Capital.
This event typically features the music of The Subscribers, ALTSO's always popular house band, and on occasion has been enlivened with some members of the audience taking a turn at the microphone.
OTHER EVENTS
Since the founding of ALTSO, many of our patrons have offered to help by staging local fund-raisers on their own.
